TX9KD_POD SEATS | DAVIDE ALLIERI
Davide Allieri’s practice (Bergamo, 1982) focuses on sculpture and takes shape through elaborate installations.
The artwork TX9KD_POD Seats (2023) consists of a series of fiberglass seats designed and created by the artist. These seats are in shades of yellow and green, and although their seriality suggests repetition and standardization, each piece is actually unique. The design of the seats evokes the futuristic aesthetic of a sci-fi film, featuring angular engravings on the backrests and a mechanical component installed on the headrests.
The TX9KD_POD Seats are conceived to be placed inside specially designed capsules, also created by Allieri, and connected to them via a system of cables that link to the mechanism on the headrest. The functional purpose of these objects is to protect, to shield the person seated inside the capsule from whatever is happening or will happen outside—something unknown, unpredictable, a mysterious future that is most likely catastrophic.
Through his practice, Allieri offers a daring temporal leap, transforming the exhibition space into an uncertain, suspended environment, trapped in a future that has already passed or a past that has yet to unfold.
The capsules, seats, and other artworks in the installation carry the quality and imagery of alien technologies. Allieri stages the vision of a dystopian reality, a post-apocalyptic scenario, a landscape where humanity has almost entirely vanished, leaving only traces of its existence and extreme attempts at survival.
One of the capsules containing a TX9KD_POD Seat is currently on display as part of the solo exhibition “After All,” curated by Damiano Gullì, at Triennale Milano, from November 14, 2024, to January 19, 2025.
