Residency Award / Foundación Casa Wabi
Foundación Casa Wabi, with the support of ArtReview, offers a residency prize for artists in Puerto Escondido, in the Oaxaca region in Mexico, for the month of July 2019.
The proposals, that will be examined by a selection jury, shall concern projects regarding the involvement and the benefit of the local community of Puerto Escondido, where the residence will be located. Applications for participation can come from all artists, of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. It’s possible to participate in groups of up to two artists.
Fundación Casa Wabi is a non-profit organization that has created an interdisciplinary and social impact project, whose mission is to promote the exchange of ideas, a foster open and constructive dialogue between national and international artists, uniting different practices and artistic disciplines. The foundation, which is based in Puerto Escondido, on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, was founded in 2014 by the Mexican artist Bosco Sodi and adopts its name from the concept “Wabi-Sabi”, which represents a world view focused on acceptance of the ephemeral and of the imperfect. Based on this philosophy, Casa Wabi, located on the coast of Oaxaca, was designed by architect Tadao Ando, trying to generate a space conducive to interaction, where artists in residence and communities in the region can meet.
