Photoworks | Artist open call
Photoworks and English Heritage are seeking applications from four young photographers, aged 18 – 25, keen to develop their practice with support from the Photoworks team and an experienced mentor.
Four artists will be invited to select an English Heritage site of their choice as an opportunity to explore a place that has significance for them in some way. Using that site as a springboard, artists will create a new body of photographic work exploring alternative narratives and new voices of England, drawing out ideas about Identity and its relationship to ‘Englishness’.
The residencies are part of England’s New Lenses, a broader partnership between Photoworks and English Heritage, forming part of Shout Out Loud, English Heritage’s national youth engagement programme.
The residency will entail:
1. Research, development and production of a new body of artwork, supported by Photoworks and English Heritage:
● Artists will be afforded behind the scenes access to English Heritage sites, collections, stores and offices and will have access to site staff, historians, curators, conservators or gardeners to support explorations of chosen sites and their history and collections. They will receive ongoing curatorial advice from Photoworks team and two days contact time with an experienced mentor who will support their research & development for this commission.
3. Production of a new body of work.
4. Public presentation of artwork.
5. Participation in a public programme – which may be either virtual, or face to face, depending on Covid 19 restrictions
A fee of £2,400 (inc VAT) to be paid to each artist. The fee will cover all costs associated with research and production of a new body of artwork, contact with mentors, evaluation and attendance at meetings and events. There is a separate, modest budget for travel and materials costs.
To apply Please submit:
