MAPPA-MONDO. FOTOGRAFIE DI DIECI PAESI IN SICILIA | PALAZZO BUTERA, PALERMO
The discovery, during restoration work at Palazzo Butera, of ten paintings depicting maps of the feudal properties of the Branciforti family has sparked a reflection on the transformation of the landscape and the meaning of places over time. From this reflection, a photographic research project was initiated in four Sicilian provinces: Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna, and Messina.
The task assigned to the six involved artists — Giorgio Barrera, Martina Della Valle, Sebastiano Raimondo, Moira Ricci, Sandro Scalia, and Maria Vittoria Trovato — is not one of documentation but rather of free individual exploration through their own style and language.
The exhibition titled “Mappa-mondo. Fotografie di dieci paesi in Sicilia,” curated by Roberta Valtorta, opens tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, and represents the outcome of this research, including a selection of artworks created by the participating artists.
