“DEADWEIGHT” & “ATTRAVERSO I DILUVI” | COLLEZIONE MARAMOTTI, REGGIO EMILIA
Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia is ready to open two exhibitions on October 27: “Deadweight” and “Attraverso i diluvi”.
“Deadweight” is a solo exhibition dedicated to the artist Dominique White, winner of the ninth edition of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women. The term ‘deadweight’ originates from a nautical context, but the artist reinterprets it to challenge conventional notions of stability, suggesting emancipation through destruction. The project weaves together ideas of Afrofuturism, Afropessimism, and hydrarchy, envisioning a future freed from traditional narratives and liberated from capitalist and colonial influences.
Simultaneously, “Attraverso i diluvi” is a group exhibition conceived from works in the Collection’s archive. The common, highly relevant theme is that of catastrophes: the exhibition connects images from different eras and reveals the changing perceptions of natural disasters over time.
Both exhibitions will be open until February 16, 2025.
