ARTIFACT PRIZE 2018

Artifact is a project devoted to contemporary art that is composed by an exhibition and a prize. The title, artifact, is referred to the element of production of the artistic object, both in its historical and traditional sense, and to the contemporary context of production and reception of the artwork, from the development of the digital technologies to the post-Internet art.

The Artifact first edition took place in Modena in April 2018. Through an open call addressed to Italian and international artists, without limitations of technique and age, it was possible to propose original works, with characteristics of quality, research and contemporaneity.

The committee of the first edition, composed by Fabrizia Carabelli (Editor, INSIDE ART), Alessandro Carrer (Art critic,  professor at ISIA Urbino), Vittorio Iervese (Professor, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia), Andrea Losavio (d406 Gallery),  Marcella Manni (Metronom), Chiara Massimo (Rotary Club Castelvetro di Modena), Francesco Pozzi (Francesco Pozzi & Soci), selected the finalist projects and, among these, the three winners. The shortlisted artists selected by the jury have exhibited their works in a collective exhibition inside Castello di Levizzano (Catelvetro di Modena), in April 2018. Those projects are also featured in the publication ARTIFACT, produced by Metronom Books, designed by the German duo TILO & TONI and Leonie Hennicke, with some insights on the selected works and an iconographic apparatus.

For 2018 edition the third prize was assigned ex-aequo to Valentina d’Accardi with the video installation Inconscio Idraulico (2018) and to Claudia Sinigaglia with the series of drawings Untitled (2017). The second prize was assigned to Daniele Marzorati, with the photographic installation As the Crow Flies (2017). The first prize was assigned to Massimiliano Gatti with the photographic installation Aleppo è una foglia di alloro (2018).
